MID PENN PREVIEW - 5/02/14

CENTRAL DAUPHIN (9-5) at NORTHERN YORK (6-7) 7:00PM
*Rescheduled from yesterday due to grass conditions at Bostic.
- Northern has had a ton of games rescheduled this year due to inclement weather (which is unavoidable) but also due to not wanting to damage the grass on Bostic Field. Trinity has had similar issues at COBO. We are not sure what the solution here is but it is becoming clear that school's/AD's overly concerned with grass conditions need to find alternate solutions. Northern will have 4 games in 6 days which is a very difficult way to end the season for a team hoping to make an outside push at districts (currently 26th).
The Mid Penn Championship is not a possibility for either squad but districts is. Each team would need a win here as they are both (CD is 15th, Northern 26th) not guaranteed a spot at this point. A loss for Northern would end their long shot hope to get in. CD needs to take advantage of quality win opportunities today at Northern and Monday at home against Trinity.
Northern has be resurgent winning four straight. They need a win here and Monday against CV for quality of opponent strength wins. Look for their offense to continue to be one led by committee with Grant Rutter (18 goals), Derek Myers (18), Sam Haak (17), and Zach Martich (14) all being capable scorers.
The Rams have won seven out of their last eight to turn around a 2-4 start. Coach Driscoll is our choice for Mid Penn Coach of the Year if he can pull off a win today and than Monday against the rival in the making Shamrocks. The Rams offense is also similarly one with a few different scoring options.Specifically Eli Hudson (24 goals), Nate Beard (21), and Colton Nye (23). They also have a very strong defensive unit with Scott Kelly in the net.

LOWER DAUPHIN (6-8) at PENN MANOR (9-7) 7:00PM
-Our only other game tonight is an out of conference matchup for the Falcons. Currently rated 28th it would take them winning out (today and then McDevitt at home Tuesday) and a whole lot of good luck to make districts. LD has made a full turn around in 2104 and looks to be a program on the rise. After a 0-4 start they managed to win 6 out of 8. Recently they haven fallen off with two straight losses to CD and CV.
The Comets are also a team who is finishing much better than they started. Opening the season 1-4 they have battled back and currently in the middle of a five game winning streak. 0-2 against the Mid Penn with losses to Carlisle and CV it is difficult to see exactly where they fall. Currently rated 19 for the district playoffs this game will mean a lot to them.
The keys for success for Lower Dauphin are the same they have been all year. Strong play by Justin Guevarez (118 saves on the season, 3rd in the MP) is a must. Mike Mattis will need to get the offense going with Albert Gremmel and Garret Schug helping out. Penn Manor, like LD, does not have an overwhelming single player who they rely on for scoring. Kyle Madonna (22 goals), Wyatt Barnett (20 goals), and Kauffman (15 goals) lead a balanced offensive game plan.
