This is it. We've made it. It's been a long, and fantastic 2014 College Lacrosse season and we've reached May. It's already been great with a fantastic Championship Week, and will continue in what I believe will be a GREAT NCAA Tournament. Great 1st Round match-ups, no standout team, but plenty of very good ones. There's 7-8 teams who can win this tournament. It's sure to be a good one. There's 18 teams this year, with 2 Play-In games on Wednesday. And then next Saturday/Sunday it's the First Round. May 17/18 is the Quarterfinals, and May 25/27 is Championship Weekend, with the Semis and Final. But first we have the Selection Show on Sunday night. Here's what I expect.
First, the seeds. This is how I think the seeds turn out
  1. Duke
  2. Syracuse
  3. Loyola
  4. Notre Dame
  5. Maryland
  6. Penn
  7. Virginia
  8. Cornell
For Maryland, I envision anywhere from a 4-6 seed. I would've been confident with a 4 seed if Notre Dame had lost to Army. I think a 5 seed is fair for the Terps and where they'll likely end up. A 6 seed wouldn't shock me either, but I think that's unlikely. A 7-8 seed would shock me, and would frankly not be fair. Maryland deserves a 4-6 seed and will get it IMO.
Duke/Syracuse are fighting for the #1 overall seed, and despite the Orange's resurgence recently and their win over Duke last Friday in the ACC Tournament Semi-Finals, the Blue Devils overall resume is the best in the country and should give them the #1 seed.
Loyola/Notre Dame/Maryland are fighting for the 3-5 seeds. Penn has a shout, and has been given as a high as a 3 in some bracketology projections.
There is a lot of confusion in the final 2-3 spots. Denver should definitely be a national seed in my opinion, but is unlikely to get one. Virginia/Penn/Cornell/North Carolina are in line for these spots. I'm positive Penn and Virginia get seeds, and Cornell probably gets the 8th over the Tar Heels, with Johns Hopkins having a distant shot.
It should be a very interesting night and one that's full of debate. And I expect us to get some VERY juicy first round match-ups. Make sure to tune in!
