MESSIAH COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW SYNTHETIC TURF LACROSSE FIELD

Grantham, PA – Messiah College announced plans for a new synthetic turf field in the Starry Sports Complex, a move that should have an immediate, positive impact on the Falcons' men's and women's lacrosse programs. The entire project is split into three phases, with Phase One to cost 1.3 million dollars and include the field itself, fencing, a scoreboard, and underground wiring for future lights and fiber optics;

Phase One is currently underway with anticipated completion in time for the Spring, 2015 seasons.

"We're thankful for the support of the College and numerous donors who have committed financial resources and enthusiasm to this project," Messiah College Director of Athletics Jack Cole said. "This field will immediately enhance our lacrosse programs and the experience of our student-athletes. We're really excited for this giant step forward."

The turf will serve primarily as a lacrosse field, with Messiah's NCAA Division III men's and women's lacrosse teams moving from the Falcons' other turf surface, Anderson Field. That field, which is outfitted with AstroTurf, will continue to serve as the main practice and competition site of the Falcons' Division III field hockey program.

Though the facility will be primarily used for lacrosse, the field will certainly benefit the Falcons' summer camps and the larger College community, especially the recreational sports program.

"This facility will greatly enhance our enitre campus, not just athletics," Cole said. "We trust our student body and campus community will benefit greatly from the field."

As mentioned, Phase One is underway. Phase Two will include the full lighting for the facility, with $60,000 already raised toward that end. Phase Three will include the stadium seating, press box, bathrooms, hospitality patio, and parking lot.

Both Phase Two and Phase Three will start as fundraising is completed.
