HERSHEY 11 CUMBERLAND VALLEY 6
The Hershey Trojans win their 5th Mid-Penn title in the past 7 seasons and continue their perfect season with a record of 19-0.
CV had control early on a John Miller score (3 goals) on a great feed from Rod Jamieson and would hold the 1-0 lead through the first quarter. The scoring picked up in the second frame as CV extended their lead to 2-0 with another Miller goal to open the quarter. From their the Trojans started to get in rthym with Jake Wilson (4 goals, 1 assist) and Karl Van Blargen (4 goals, 1 assist) each finding the back of the net to even the score at 2-2. The scored would be even at 3 a piece when Wilson and Van Blargen would again score to take a 5-3 lead into the half.
30 seconds into the start of the second half John Miller would score his third goal of the game to get CV within one. Hershey's defense held tight and the Trojans would get the next two goals to extend their lead to 7-4. Matt Dengler would score for the Eagles to bring it to 7-5 with 3:00 to play in the 3rd. After that it was all Hershey as they would go on a 4-0 run and close out the game. The back breaker came on a Matt Stewart score late in the 4th to put Hershey up 11-5.
A hard fought game by both teams saw some great goal tending by both Nic Brown and John Fahnestock. Defensively Jack Doanhue and Matt Briar for Hershey were tenacious. Thomas Arntez and John Tartline worked through out the night to pressure Hershey's attack. Ultimately Hershey's transition game and affectiveness on ground balls combined with some costly CV turnovers would prove to be the difference.
Both squads will play next Tuesday at home in the first round of districts and we fully expect them to make runs in the District III playoffs as well as the State Playoffs. Congratulations to both Hershey and Cumberland Valley on tremendous Mid-Penn seasons and best of luck in the post-season!
