YORK COLLEGE LACROSSE TO HOLD INTRODUCTORY PRESS CONFERENCE MONDAY

YORK, PA – The York College men's lacrosse program will be holding an introductory press conference for the newest member of the Spartan men's lacrosse family as Mitch Pollock will be introduced to the York community.
Pollock is an eight-year old student-athlete from Eastern York and will sign his national letter of intent on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.
Pollack comes to the Spartan program with the reputation as a fighter. He was born three months premature on November 24, 2007. Pollock weighed a mere two pounds and four ounces. He was born via an emergency c-section at Women's & Babies hospital in Lancaster. He stayed in Lancaster for a month prior to being transported to Hershey Medical Center after it was discovered that he had blood clots in both his renal veins.

Pollock's biggest test came after his arrival at Hershey as his parents, Doug and Jenn, were told that the next 12-to-24 hours were critical to save his life. Fortunately, Mitch had the heart of a fighter and was able to survive that crucial period. He was put on a peritoneal dialysis with a chest tube catheter. He remained at Hershey NICU for almost four months. Once Mitch was discharged from Hershey, Doug and Jenn were responsible for administering dialysis every night.
In December 2009, Mitch was big enough to receive a kidney transplant and Jenn selflessly gave her son one of her kidneys. While the road of transplant was not easy, Mitch eventually came out healthy on the other side. He is now a normal eight-year old who loves riding his four wheeler and his Pittsburgh Steelers.
Spartan head coach Brandon Childs is happy to welcome Pollock to the Spartan program.
"Mitch really exemplifies what we want in a Spartan men's lacrosse player," says Childs. "He is a fighter. He is a kid who has had to overcome so much in his young life yet his outlook on life is very positive. We are thrilled to welcome Mitch to the York College men's lacrosse family."
Pollock will be introduced on Monday as he will sign his national letter of intent, receive his #19 York College jersey and also take questions from the assembled media. Coach Childs and captain Ben Jones (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) will provide some remarks during the press conference.
