MID PENN PREVIEW - 4/21/14

TRINITY (8-2) at ELIZABETHTOWN (6-7) 4:00PM
- Last week had been circled on the Shamrock calendar all season. Unfortunately neither of their games went as they would have liked. An excellent first half dissolved against Hershey at home and a sloppy effort on the road at Carlisle gave them their first losses of the year in back to back fashion.
Elizabethtown is a team that has bounced back nicely from a 0-6 start to go on a 6 game win streak which ended last weak to Ephrata. At 2-2 verses the Mid Penn this game will not be a layup for the Rocks. Trinity will first rely on their excellent defense as they look to get back in rhythm on offense. Right now they will need to lean on a leading scorer by committee approach. Scott, Kleist, and Altmeyer as all equally dangerous from attack and Bailey and Sherlock will need to shoulder the midfielder duties.

CUMBERLAND VALLEY (7-5) at EMMAUS (10-2) 6:30PM
- The Eagles look to have their hands full in a good out of conference test against the Green Hornets. From the LVIAC with a 98.6 power ranking they look to be one of the more dominant teams in the region. CV has gone 5-2 in their last 7 games coming off a heart breaking 10-9 OT loss at home to Hempfield. The Eagles have become much more dangerous since the start of the season and with the additions of Lehman, Zumbrum, and Jameison as regular scoring threats and  we expect their play to continue to improve. A tough test today though.

LOWER DAUPHIN (4-6) at CEDAR CREST (4-8) 5:00PM
- After a 1-5 start Coach Vickroy's Falcons are in the midst of a nice turn around having won 3 of their last 4 games with a quality win over Chambersburg 10-7. Mike Mattis (17 goals) has stepped into the role of leading scorer very nicely with Grummel, Beaver, and Schug  are all following with 8 a piece.
Cedar Crest is 0-2 verse the Mid Penn with losses to Palmyra and Trinity. They have 76.3 power ranking to LD's 81.1.

COCALICO (7-5) at PALMYRA (6-5) 5:30PM
- The Eagles are in the midst of a 3 game skid as they face their first Mid Penn opponent on the road at Palmyra. The Cougars are a program on the cusp of big things as 4 of their 5 losses have come at a combined 8 goals. That alone lets you know what could have been this year (Hershey defeated them 17-5). Sam Wasson has been excellent in the net with 116 saves on the year. Joey Hess is having another great season at attack  (23 goals, 20 assists) and Nick Mazzacco is stepping into the #2 scorer role nicely with 17 goals of his own.

LANCASTER COUNTRY DAY (2-8) at BISHOP MCDEVITT (2-7)7:00PM
- Virtually even in power rankings and records these two teams are looking to gain momentum for the end of the season. LCD has won 2 of their last 3 games and is looking to keep the wins coming. After an 0-6 start the Crusaders have done the same. Any team that can win 3 of 4 games will he have added confidence to build on and use going forward.
In their first 6 games the Crusaders had only scored 23 goals (11 coming in their opener) and their offense was a major concern for Coach Walter. In  their last three contests they have found the back of the net 30 times and seem to have things moving in the right direction offensively. Nick Suknaic is their leading scorer on attack with 11 goals and 7 assists, while Jackson and Griffin Hanes are each starting to make noise with 9 goals a piece.
