MID PENN PREVIEW - 4/28/14

CHAMBERSBURG (5-6) at MECHANICSBURG (2-10) 4:30PM
- Chambersburg has been a very difficult team to figure out all year. After a four game losing streak they have now bounced back to win two of three with their loss coming to a talented Northern club 10-6. Today they get a struggling Wildcats team and should be able to get to .500 and although they are most likely to far back to make a serious play at districts (currently 28) a winning season is still a possibility. The 1-2 combo of Pierson (27 goals) and Lombardozzi (26 goals) has new addition in JT Hopple who has firmly established himself as a scoring threat with 23 goals on the year.
     The Cats are in need of a good competitive performance as they are currently in the midst of an eight game losing streak being outscored 27-115 in that span. They face a difficult end of season Mid Penn schedule and need to find ways to build confidence for next season. Aaron Heisey will be a focal point on their offensive attack and Eddie Martin will also be a factor, where ever he is placed on the field.

CARLISLE (11-1) at HEMPFIELD (12-2) 5:30PM
- The Black Knights look to be an excellent test for the the newly established number one team in the Mid Penn. At 12-2 they have 92.6 lax power ranking and currently a 6 seed for districts. The Herd is coming off a big win at home against Hershey and will look to make a strong statement for the up coming district tournament. They currently hold a 95.3 lax power ranking and are the 2 seed for districts.
    Carlisle showed on Thursday that they can hurt you a number of different ways and that Mark Bowser is an extremely capable goalie with an excellent defense in front of him. Max Breschi (31 goals) will clearly be involved in the offense but they have a multitude of players who can score. When Jon Mundell initiates off the dodge he can score from his shot but is also excellent at finding the open man.

PALMYRA (7-6) at NORTHERN YORK (5-7) 7:30PM
* Rescheduled from 4/08/14
- Palmyra currently sits at 18 for the district playoffs and needs a win on the road tonight to have shot at getting in. They dropped another close contest 11-9 to State College on Thursday and if they want to move up the ranks of the MP to be considered an elite team they must start beating teams in the middle of the pack. Look for Nick Mazzocca (26 goals) to continue to step up as a scorer and Joey Hess (28 goals, 26 assists) toremain equally dangerous as both a scorer and a distributor.
     Northern is better than their record and should be an excellent test for the Cougars. Like the Cougars if they want to be considered a more formidable team in the MP they need to get above .500 against MP opponents. After a 5 game mid season skid they have now won three in a row and look to keep the momentum building. With five players between 17-12 goals scored on the year they have good distribution on offense. It would be nice to see a more dominant scorer in the group though.

CENTRAL DAUPHIN (7-5) at CD EAST (0-12) 7:30PM
- Normally in rivalry games you will hear "through out the records in this one." Typically there is a lot of energy from both squads and teams play to the best of their abilities. Hopefully that happens here tonight but in all honesty we can't see the Rams losing this one.
    CD has played very well as of late winning five of their last six and currently sitting at 23 for district seeding. A long shot to jump into the top 16 they still have a chance if they can win out. Look for Eli Hudson (24 goals), Nate Beard (17 goals), and Colton Nye (17 goals) to all have good games tonight.
     The Panthers will again look to senior midfielder Chrystian Hess (16 goals) to lead them in scoring and on the offensive end.
     As a side note HARRISBURG LACROSSE will be doing a youth lacrosse promotion at the game tonight with a hardest shot competition.
