MID PENN REPORT - 4/18/14

LOWER DAUPHIN 10 CHAMBERSBURG 7
- Chambersburg has now lost 5 of 6 and is danger of their season becoming lost down the stretch. The Falcons jumped out to a 4-2 first quarter lead an extended it to 8-5 by the half. The second half was far more defense oriented with both squads only scoring 2 goals each and Lower Dauphin grabbing their 4th win in 6 games after starting the season 0-4.
The day belonged to Mike Yarrish who coming into the game only had 2 goals on the year but managed to find the back of the net 4 times in this one. Mike Matos and Alex Spanos also joined in with 2 goals apiece. Justin Guevarez had another nice game with 7 saves on 21 shots which shows the Trojans were not on net as much as they needed to be.

STATE COLLEGE 15 NORTHERN YORK 4
-  We talked yesterday about how unfazed the Little Lions seemed to be with the long road trips they made this season even though they were playing Northern at home. It looks like the Polar Bears were not as accustomed to 2 hour drives for away games as the Lions. State College has now won 6 of their last 7 and is a dangerous team for opponents down the stretch. They now find themselves in 2nd place in the Commonwealth and if they can beat Carlisle at home May 1st who knows what could happen...
The Luc Michael and Brady Franks show was in full affect early in this one. State College leaped out to 6-0 first quarter lead and extended that to 8-1 by the half. They would cruise the rest of the way outscoring Northern 7-3 in the second half. Michaels led the day with 5 goals and 1 assist, while Franks did damage of his own with 3 goals and 1 assist.
Northern is now in the midst of a 4 game Mid Penn skid where they have faced the top four teams in the conference. A tough road for sure. Zach Martick was one of four players with a goal and tallied the Polar Bears lone assist. Coach Miller made a goalie change from Shumberger to Slothower in the second half. Not sure if this was a long term move or a short term fix. They have today off and travel to an improved Warwick team on Saturday. They face Mechanicsburg at home on Monday in the Brisbane Cup game.

HERSHEY 17 PALMYRA 5
- Stop us if you have heard this before, Hershey dominated the first half and cruised to victory in the second. The Trojans got out to a 6-1 lead in the opening frame and were able to extend their lead to 13-1 by the half putting this one away early. Hershey is on a tear and at this point it looks like Carlisle's shutdown defense is the only team that has a chance to stand in their way.
Coach Schein's dominant offensive unit saw Jake Wilson score 4 times with Briggs, Calhoun, and Van Blargen each netting 3 goals. Stand out LSM Dave Sickler continues to get offensive numbers with another goal scored last night. Stat of the day goes to George Briggs who managed 8 assists. Briggs has excellent vision and if you give him the opportunity to feed from X it is only a matter of time before Hershey picks your defense apart.
The Cougars were led on the day by Josh Shoemaker who had 4 of their 5 goals. Shoemaker only had 7 goals coming into this contest so it is nice that Coach Gatano has found another scorer to go with Hess, Mazzacco, and Frey.

CUMBERLAND VALLEY 12 CD EAST 5
- The final in this one is closer than one might have expected but the game was never in doubt. CV jumped out to an 8-1 first quarter lead and was seemingly in control all afternoon. CD East showed some fight by outscoring the Eagles 4-1 in the second and third frames drawing the game back with in reach at 9-5. CV closed them out in the fourth quarter with 3 unanswered goals.
10 different players for the Eagles had a goal or an assist. Logan Fazakerly led the day with 3 goals and 2 assists. Tommy Lehman had 3 goals of his own and Nick Zumbrum had a pair of scores. Three different goalies got a chance in net for CV as they have now won four straight.

CENTRAL DAUPHIN 13 CONESTOGA VALLEY 5
- The Rams go out of conference for their third straight win and are primed for a Monday show down with Cumberland Valley. 2-1 at the end of the first had this game close when CD was able to pull away with a 4-1 second quarter and a 6-2 third quarter.
10 of their scores came from four players showing great depth on their offense. Chris Martin and Colton Nye led the way with 3 goals each while Eli Hudson and Derek Quaid managed a pair of scores.
