-Duke University senior Will Haus became the latest Blue Devil to be picked in the Major League Lacrosse first round after being selected third overall by the Charlotte Hounds. Haus is the 10th Blue Devil to be among the top five selections since Kevin Cassese went second in 2003.
Haus, a defensive midfielder, joins former Blue Devils Henry Lobb, Jake Tripucka and Brendan Fowler on the Charlotte Hounds. Josh Dionne is also is among the group of Duke players available for the Hounds after missing the 2013 MLL season to injury.
Arguably the best short-stick midfielder in Division I lacrosse, Haus has played in 61 career games in his three seasons with the Blue Devils. He has helped lead Duke to consecutive NCAA titles and owns 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points and 129 ground balls. Dangerous in transition, Haus netted a career-high 11 goals in 2014, including a thrilling transition goal in the NCAA title game versus Notre Dame.
Haus earned USILA All-America honorable mention recognition in 2014 and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after netting a goal and two ground balls in the title game. He is a preseason All-America third team pick by Inside Lacrosse this season.
The Blue Devils open the 2015 campaign Feb. 7 at High Point. Duke kicks off its home schedule Feb. 8 versus Air Force at 12 p.m.
