DISTRICT III CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP 8 CUMBERLAND VALLEY 3

Township wins their 4th District III Title in the past 6 years in a defensive battle over CV. CV will now face the WPIAL Champion in the opening round of the PIAA State Tournament, Manheim will face the 3rd place finisher from that league. The Blue Streaks celebrated but notably did not touch the throphy as this team clearly has larger goal in mind.

The Eagles got the early lead of Stevie Peters and Matt Dengler scores going up 2-0 in the first quarter and holding the Blue Streaks offense in check. Manheim would answer in the second quarter knotting things up at 2-2 by the half. CV won the face-off battle 13-4 in the first half.

The third quarter would be all Manheim late in the frame as they went one a 5-0 run starting at the 8 minute mark to take commanding 7-2 lead. Ryan Miller, Kevin Curcio, and Davis Carr all scored in the final minutes of the third to give Township the needed space for victory. Manheim would keep CV's offense in check down the stretch to get the 8-3 victory and District Title. Chris Augeri, Kevin Curcio, and Ryan Miller all had 2 goals for Manheim.

HERSHEY 18 HEMPFIELD 10
Hershey gets the win over the Black Knights in the third place game to stamp their ticket to the State Playoffs.  This one was much closer than the final score would indicate until the Trojans pulled away late in the game. Tied at 2-2 after the first quarter Hershey got some breathing room going up 6-4 at the half and then extending that lead to 10-7 by the end of the 3rd, still anyone's game... Until Hershey scored 8 goals in the final frame for a resounding 18-10 victory. Karl Van Blargen would lead all scorers with 6 goals with 1 assist, Jake Wilson had 5 goals, and George Briggs had 2 goals and 6 assists on the night.
