CUMBERLAND VALLEY 9 HEMPFIELD 8
Landmark win for the CV program Tuesday night as they punch their ticket to their first ever District III Title Game as well as the State Playoffs. On a night where it would take a total team effort with 7 different players scoring 9 goals, Cumberland Valley was able to get the win on a late Jeff Hamlin score with 37 seconds in the game.
Things started out quickly for the Eagles as they scored just over a minute into the game to go up 1-0. Zach Ward (2 goals, 2 assists) and Hempfield would get the next 2 goals to go up 2-1 and CJ Sherlock (2 goals) would score to bring everything to 2-2. The Black Knights would go on a 3-0 run through the end of the 1st quarter and star of the 2nd. CV looked to be in real trouble down 5-2. The Eagles battled back to even things at 5-5 on a John Miller score. Things would remain tight into the 4th quarter as Hempfield had an 8-7 lead until Sherlock scored the equalizing goal with 10:31 left in the game. A lot of defense and critical possesions would follow until Hamlin was able to hit the game winner and get his team to the title game.
CV will play four seed Manheim Township Thursday night at 7:00pm at Hershey Park Stadium. Township defeated Hershey 15-7 earlier in the evening.
MANHEIM TWP VS HERSHEY AFTER THE BREAK
MANHEIM TOWNSHIP 15 HERSHEY 7
The Trojans had a difficult go of things in their 4th trip to the semi-finals where they are now 0-4. The perfect season comes to an end but they still have plenty to play for as they are in the 3rd place game against Hempfield opn Thursday at Lower Dauphin Middle School with a State Playoff birth on the line.
Hershey's Karl Van Blargen opened the scoring to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead in the first but it would be all Blue Streak from there. The first would end 3-1 Manheim and they would continue as they completed an 8-0 run to go up 8-1. Two late second quarter goals had Hershey getting some momentum headed into the half. Manheim would come out quickly in the third and extend their lead to 10-3. A Joe Olives score would get Hershey within 6 but by the end of the 3rd it was 14-4 Township with the game effectively out of reach. Ryan Miller (5 goals, 2 assists) and Chris Augeri (3 goals, 4 assists) led the way for Manheim while Michael Gadd (2 goals) and Jake Wilson (2 goals) were the leading scorers for Hershey.
Manheim will be going for a 4th District III Title. They have previously won in '09, '11, and '13 showing a trend that seems to favor their chances Thursday night.
