DISTRICT PLAYOFF REPORT - ROUND 1

WEST YORK 11 TRINITY 9
-   Trinity's third straight trip to districts will end with their third straight loss in round one. Coach Heisey's team has seen more than it's fair share of injuries and a depleted midfield which put the Shamrocks in a tough spot from the word go. This one will sting as Trinity had bested West York less than two weeks ago 15-6.
West York got out to an early 2-0 lead and the Shamrocks would be fighting back from their all evening. Senior midfielder Connor Bailey (2 goals) would answer early in  the second to bring the score to 2-1 but the Bull Dogs would quickly regain their two goal lead. Trinity would work the ball to sophomore midfielder Mark Mandack (3 goals) for a score to bring it to 3-2 as he started a break out evening. Again West York would score their own goal to get the separation back to two goals and then score shortly after that to take a 5-2 lead to the half.

(More after the jump)

The first goal of the third came from Kyle Scott (1 goal, 1 assist) when he took took advantage of man up situation. Connor Bailey followed this by hitting a big out side shot to get the Rocks within one score and bring it to 5-4. A questionable holding call gave the Bulldogs their own man up which they would take advantage of to again separate to 6-4. Sophomore Jesse Altmeyer (1 goal, 3 assists) and his fellow classmate Bryce Amos (2 assists) got involved to brings things back with in one score. Vinny Oliverio (2 goals) would dodge for a nice bounce shot to finally knot things up at 6-6. It would stay close and with West York up 7-6 Mandack was able to secure a key ground ball and score to tie things back up at 7. The Rocks were able to outscore the Bulldogs 6-2 in the third and take an 8-7 lead to the fourth.
West York would score early in the 4th to get things evened at 8-8 in route to a 4-1 fourth quarter that would not see the Rocks close in on their lead. West York will advance to play 1 seed Wilson, who beat York Suburban 18-5, on Thursday at Hempfield.
Trinity's season ends earlier then they would have liked but that should not over shadow the winningest season in the programs history (which dates back to the Harrisburg Academy era). Accomplishing this under some very difficult circumstances makes it all the greater the achievement. Hats off to to a very talented group of players with excellent coaches and fans. We are sure they will be back in the mix next spring.

HERSHEY 18 SUSQUEHANNOCK 7
- When your driving down 322 into Derry Township and onto the Hershey High School property one thing immediately jumps to your attention, great facilities. As you look a little closer you'll see a variety of athletic activities going on and for us we couldn't help but notice the youth lacrosse game going on across the street. Many of these young players would be in the stands as the game went on and the blue print of Hershey Lacrosse's success is clear. A strong youth program which gets players involved early and culture of winning that can't be denied.
The Trojans got out early and often in this one and in the first quarter it was obvious that Coach Schein and company would be advancing to round two. George Briggs (5 goals, 3 assists) would open the game with a very nice isolation dodge from behind the cage at X and his success would continue on from there. Jake Wilson (3 goals, 5 assists) would then feed Austin Paxton for a score before netting one of his own off a Logan Calhoun (4 goals, 2 assists) assist courtesy of Matt Stewart setting up the fast break on a face off.  The Warriors started to fall apart from their as long pole defense men Matt Brior (1 goal) was able to take a clear into a fast break which saw him go unattended all the way to the goal to push it to 4-0. Susquehannock would try and claw back with the first quarter ending 5-2.
The second quarter would be very similar to the first with Hershey extending their lead to 10-3. Wilson and Briggs continued to be overwhelming in their 2-Man game from X. These two are incredibly in sync and make it look effort less. Their vision, timing, and connection is a site to be hold and it will be a key factor for Hershey to advance deep into districts and states. It is hard to believe that both will be returning in 2015 for their senior seasons. First team Mid Penn selection LSM Dave Sickler (2 goals) ended the first half with a wrap around goal on GLE showcasing a level of skill that makes him one of the top players in the area.
In the third quarter Hershey put it on ice as senior attackman Logan Calhoun got more involved with 2 goals and assist in the quarter to put them up 15-7. They would go on cruise control the rest of the way. They will play Hempfield, who defeated Berk Catholic 14-4, in round two Thursday night at Central York High School.

CARLISLE 11 PENN MANOR 3
- Carlisle rebounds nicely from Saturdays MPC loss to take a first round victory over the Comets. This marks the second time the Herd has beaten Penn Manor this season. The Herd would get rolling early and much like Hershey had little concern throughout the evening. John Mundell would open the scoring early by winning the face off and receiving a feed from Drew Amsley for the opening score. Things would continue in this manner as the herd ended the opening quarter with a 5-1 lead.
With an established lead they were able to slow things down and play classic Kidder ball control offense and be patient with their shot selection. They would continue to out score the Comets going up 7-1 at the half and then 10-1 at the end of third slowly putting the game out of reach.
Freshman George Faller would lead the Herd on the day with 5 goals and Max Breschi regained his form with 3 goals and 1 assist. Mundell, Scott, and Wallace all managed a goal a piece while Mid Penn first team goalie Mark Bowser had an excellent night with 8 saves. The defense and the offense seem to be back in a groove and with their leadership and experienced coaching staff it should be no surprise to see Carlisle back in top form. Next up for the Herd is Governer Mifflin who upset (10 v 7) Central York 13-9. They will play Thursday night, 7:00pm, at Eagle View Middle School (CV).
