WINTER WEATHER WOES - UPDATED

Mid-Penn practices have officially begun... sort of.

Everything was looking good with a lot of snow having begun to melt through Saturday. Then the white stuff started to fall and never seemed to stop on Sunday. Couple that with today's ice and more bad weather on the way later this week and it could be into next week until some teams can actually get onto their practice fields.

This is now an annual issue for the Mid-Penn with a variety of situations for different programs. Turf fields that are regularly plowed are the ideal. Not everyone has turf and not every turf field gets plowed (for a variety of reasons).

The next option is indoor facilities. This can vary from renting turf time to waiting your turn to access the school gymnasium. Again, this can be different for each program. Can you afford or find an indoor facility on such short notice? Does your gym have restrictions on lacrosse activities (type of balls, sticks, etc.)? When can you get time?

And as a final resort parking lots. If they themselves aren't ice covered and all the cars are moved.

Often times preseason practices are the most critical for a team. The majority of player evaluations and system implementations are done during this time. Once games start it can be difficult to adjust on the fly. It's interesting to see how teams coupe and overcome the inconvenience of what feels like a never ending winter.
