MID PENN REPORT - 3/28/14

SCORES

HERSHEY (2-0) 15 vs CENTRAL DAUPHIN (1-1) 4
- Prior to face-off this was to be a big one for the Keystone Division. Central Dauphin represented the biggest threat to Hershey's rain as division champs headed in. This early in the season it is difficult to get a feel for where teams stand until some games are played and we are starting to see how good Coach Schein's Trojan squad is.
Hershey jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first, gained seperation and went up 7-2 at the half, and put the game on ice out scoring the Rams 8-2 in the second half. Karl Van Blargen stepped into the role of leading scorer for the Trojan's on this night with 5 goals, Jake Wilson followed with 4 goals and an assist, and Logan Calhoun had 2 goals and 2 assists. Hershey's offense is scary in that they can hurt you with so many different options. A stellar defensive performance as well.
For the Rams Nate Beard (2 goals) and Eli Hudson (1 goal) were involved in the scoring, just not to the extent they had hoped. Coach Drsicoll will need to get his guys to regroup quickly as they have Elizabethtown (out of conference game) at home today and travel to Carlisle on Monday. CD is in a tight spot as they need to win and hope for some help the rest of the way.

CHAMBERSBURG (1-0) 14 vs STATE COLLEGE (1-1) 8
- State College was 1-0 in the Mid Penn with a great defensive effort against Mechanicsburg earlier in the week. Little was known about Chambersburg headed into this one. We now know Nick Lombardozzi can score. The senior found the back of the net 5 times in this one and was also able to garner an assist for 6 total points last night. The Trojans were incontrol from the get go going up 8-3 at the half. They put the game away finishing the thrid quarter up 12-5 and went into cruise control the rest of the way. Juniors Jake Pierson and Grant Swisher had 3 goals each for Chambersburg as well.
Brady Frank had another good day for State College with 3 goals and 1 assist. Senior Luc Michael also had 3 goals for the Little Lions.

CUMBERLAND VALLEY (1-1) 6 vs PALMYRA (2-2) 5
- This game mattered. No one wanted to drop two straight Mid pen games in this bought and it showed with great defensive efforts from both squads. Palmyra got out to a 5-3 lead at the half. CV locked it down defensively in the second half and was able to claw back with a goal in the third and two in the fourth. Brian Cherewka tied it up with less than 10 minutes in the fourth. Nick Zumbrun dodged threw defenders to score and take the lead with six minutes left in the game and the Eagles were able to hold on the rest of the way.
Cherewka led all scorers with 3 goals on the day. Joey Hess had another low output day only grabbing two assists. Palmyra had 5 players with 1 goal each.

CARLISE (2-0) 19 vs CD EAST (0-2) 3
- Carlisle got out early and didn't look back. 8-0 at the end of the first and then 14-0 by half the Herd cruised to their second win of the season and first in the Mid Penn. 12 different players found the back of the net led by Max Breschi and Geroge Faller with 3 goals each. Mundell, More, and Coleman followed with 2 goals a piece.
Christian Hess had a goal and an assist for East. Shawn Stickle found the goal twice, all in the second half. The panthers had a tough draw facing two premiere Mid Penn teams in their first two games and will look to regroup and start improving with a road trip to State College Monday and Mechanicsburg at home on Tuesday.
