MID PENN REPORT - 3/29/14

YORK SUBURBAN 11 MECHANICSBURG 3
- Today was not the Wildcats day. On a brisk early spring morning Coach Brisbane's crew started off well with a long offensive possession and good ball movement that ultimately ended in a turnover. This was a precursor to a rough afternoon. Mechanicsburg struggled with turnovers and ground balls the rest of the way.
The Trojans would jump out to a 3-0 lead until Senior Aaron Heisey was able to convert his lone goal of the day for the Wildcats. York Suburban answered with two scores in the second period when Senior goal keeper for Mechanicsburg, Joe Becker, suffered an injury attempting to clear. Becker missed all of last year with a knee injury and little is known on the extent of his current injury. Sophomore Liam Darr stepped in and the score was 6-1 at the half.
The rain picked up as the temperature dropped in the second half. Mechanicsburg's defense showed new life in the absence of Becker and shut down two man-down situations. Eddie Martin was able to find the back of the net later on in the third. All day it seemed like one step forward two steps backwards though and York Suburban took at 9-2 lead into the forth. Darr played well off the bench and found Adam Fennell on a great clearing pass which setup the fast break and Donnie Houseal's only goal on the day. But again the Trojans put in a pair of scores and ran the clock from there.
The Wildcats return to field on Wednesday when they travel to CD East.
