TRINITY at CV - Preview - 3/25/14

GAME PREVIEW 3/25/14

TRINITY AT CUMBERLAND VALLEY (7:00pm)

Game of the Day - We will be tweeting live score updates at twitter.com/harrisburglax

This game has been in the making for 8+ years for some of the players involved. Separated by only 6.9 miles these school are geographic foes and share kids from the same neighborhoods. The hype is real. A lot of the players have been very active on twitter with their thoughts and predictions, letting you know how much this game means to them.

Coach Heisey has had the edge as of late winning 3 of the last 4 from Coach Bogacyzk. The Eagles are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2013 campaign and there will be no better chance to start the season with a bang then an upsetting the Shamrocks on the Eagles home turf.

If last year was rebuilding year for CV this year should bear the fruit of that labor. Logan Fazakerly (transfer from Trinity) leads the attack with junior Rod Jameison. Seniors Brian Chewreka and Nick Zumbrun will try to take charge from the midfield.

The Shamrocks add fuel to this rivalary flame by rostering a slew of CVSD residents on their team. At the top of that list is jnuior midfielder John Miller, a CV youth player, who looks to have a break out year in the Mid Penn. To make matters worse, John's older brother Jack (whom John will be playing with at Seton Hill in 2016) was an All American. Sophmore, and 2013 Trinity MVP (as a freshman) Griffin Smith, sophmore Mark Mandack, and many other would-be-eagles really show you how instence this game will be.

Trinity is strong in all facets of the game and has a slew of weapons that can hurt you. The attack is led by senior Connor Bailey who can score from a variety of spots. Sophomore Jesse Altmeyer and senior Mitch Kleist are also getting recognition with good starts to the season. A strong defensive group with three senior poles, led by Tim Hickey and  junior net minder Austin Bailey, balance out a strong unit.

In short, if Trinity wins the Shamrocks will have opened 3-0 in impressive fashion and put the rest of the Commonwealth, namely Carlisle, on notice that they will be a serious contender. If Cumberland Valley can pull off the upset then that will put the pecking order into question and show that CV is back and has a shot.
