MID PENN PREVIEW - 4/8/14

CUMBERLAND VALLEY (3-3) at STATE COLLEGE (4-3) 4:15pm
- It's been a somewhat up and down season for the Eagles to this point. The good news is they have faced the Mid Penn elite in Trinity, Hershey, and Carlisle and are most likely a better team then their record shows. How much better is the question. An excellent test awaits them in State College. The Little Lions are  a difficult team to figure with their only Mid Penn blemish coming at Chambersburg.
CV will need to continue to get Fazakerly and Lehman to produce and look for Tran to create the fast break opportunity off the the face off. Bryce Weis has been impressive this year at long pole and it will be interesting to see which goalie, Brown or Pagni, gets the start and if they finish the game.
State College has leaned heavily on their two horses in Brady Franks and Luc Michael. Sam Schwab can also score and they'll need him to get involved as the season goes on. Their defense is a bit suspect and could be the determining factor in this one.

CD EAST (0-5) at CHAMBERSBURG (2-1)  4:15pm
- East does not simply want to be another W for teams they face from the Mid Penn. This season has been difficult for the Panthers losing Senior defender Will Gingrich to a hamstring injury. Christian Hess has tried his best to carry the team, but you need more than one scoring option at this level.
Chambersburg enters their second Mid Penn game, only the fourth overall, 2-1. Nick Lombardozzi and Jake Pierson lead the offense with 9 and 7 goals respectively. Look for the Trojans to take care of this home game with relative ease.

CENTRAL DAUPHIN (2-4) at MECHANICSBURG (2-3) 4:30pm
- Coach Driscoll and the Rams are in the midst of a three game skid and would like nothing more than to turn it around on the road at Mechanicsburg. Being out scored 26-10 during that stretch CD has a number of issues they would like to square away today. On top of that list will be getting in rhythm on offense for Eli Hudson and Nate Beard.
The Wildcats have had some tough sledding early on due to injuries. They look to be getting healthier and improving. How much they've improved will be shown tonight in their third Mid Penn contest. Coach Brisbane has some talented players and Mechanicsburg could be a team to sneak up on opponents.

CARLISLE (5-0) at LOWER DAUPHIN (1-4) 7:00pm
- Coach Vikroy and the Falcons were able to get their first win 8-4 over Spring Grove on Saturday. The 1-4 record may be a bit misleading as two of those loses were by 1 goal. LD needs to get more scoring from Garret Schug (7 goals), Kevin Beaver (5), and Nick Mattis (5) to be competitive in this one.
The Herd is quietly having a stand out year on defense. Having to replace all three starting poles is no small order but Coach Kidder looks to have succeeded at this much earlier than anyone would have expected. At 5-0 with quality wins over Mt Lebanon (11-2) and CV (10-2) we would not recommend sleeping on Carlisle. They are still the defending champs and perhaps all the attention to a couple other teams is only fueling their fire to repeat. Look for George Faller (17 goals) and Max Breschi (11 goals) to lead the charge on the road tonight.

PALMYRA (4-3) at NORTHERN YORK (2-2) 7:30pm
- Palmyra's 4-3 record is somewhat misleading as all three losses came by 3 goals or less. At 2-2 in the Mid Penn/Keystone Division they are most likely not going to have a shot at the MP title game but a district birth is still a very real possibility. It will take a win on the road at Northern to keep that goal alive. Attackman Joey Hess continues to be on of the most dominant players in the conference (20 goals, 15 assists) and we are starting to see a viable number two scoring option for Coach Gatano in Nick Mazzacco (11 goals, 2 assists). Sam Wasson leads the MP in saves at 67 which is a good/bad stat. He's great in the net but may be facing to many shots in order to put up those numbers.
Coach Miller and the Polar Bears have only played 2 games in the past 2 weeks due to weather complications. Having only faced one MP team (9-8 OT win over LD) Northern is largely untested. Averaging less than 7 goals a game on offense is somewhat concerning. Sam Hakk leads the team with 7 points (5 goals, 2 assists) on the season.
