MID PENN REPORT - 4/2/14

(Kyle Kondracki and the Hershey Defense after a 15-5 victory over CV)

HERSHEY 15 (5-0) CUMBERLAND VALLEY 5
- This one didn't take long to decide. Hershey came out strong with a long opening possession and scored. They did stop from there. Tallying 8 goals in the first Coach Schein's boys were focused and determined. Their offense can hurt you a number of ways with a multitude of scorers and they show cased that on Tuesday. Cumberland Valley threw a few different looks at the Trojans with defensive sets, but the Trojans moved the ball very well and found some great looks all night.
Jake Wilson got involved early and often helping Hershey get out to an 11-3 halftime lead. He scored 5 goals with 1 assist and was followed by George Briggs and Logan Calhoun who each managed 3 goals. Hershey's defense was stout and continually pressured and cleared well. CV struggled to maintain possessions and the unforced errors and turn overs soon followed. Hershey was simply to strong in all facets of the game last night. The second half Hershey was maily looking for shots at the door steps and had called the dogs back.
Coach Bogaczyk struggled to slow the Trojans down in the first quarter and decided to make a goalie change and bring in Nick Brown who played well the rest of the way. Bryce Weis had a couple great take-aways and clears while Logan Fazakerly looked to lead the Eagles offense from the attack position. He continually attempted going one on one to the cage. The Eagles had their most offensive success with Nate Tran facing off and creating fast breaks. Tran was able to win the ball and setup the break several times resulting in two scores. Fazakerly finished the game as CV's leading scorer with 3 goals.
Kyle Kondracki and the entire Hershey defense get little recognition in the box score but the effort was again dominant.

CARLISLE 6 (4-0) CENTRAL DAUPHIN 2 (2-2)
- The Herd came out hot at home scoring 5 goals in the first quarter of play. Coach Driscoll and crew could have packed it in at that point on the road but they dug in and had a great defensive effort the rest of the way only allowing one more goal. Taylor McGrath led Carlilse with 2 goals while Faller, Breschi, and Amsley each had 1 a piece. A great defensive effort by both teams.
The Rams had goals from Nate Beard and Colton Nye but  2 goals won't win very many lacrosse games. Scott Kelly had 9 saves for CD and Mark Bowser had 13 for Carlisle.

PALMYRA 7 (3-2) LOWER DAUPHIN 6 (0-3)
- Palmyra was looking to bounce back in Mid Penn play and Lower Dauphin was looking for their first win of the young season. Something had to give in this cross town rivalry. Everything was knotted up at 1 after the 1st quarter and then Palmyra was able to pull away getting 4 unanswered scores in the 2nd quarter. Lower Dauphin battled back in the second half out scoring the Cougars 5-2 but it just wouldn't be enough.
Trevor Frye led Coach Gatano's squad with 2 goals and 2 assists followed by Joey Hess's 2 goal effort. Mattis and Miller each had 2 goals apiece for the Falcons and Coach Vickroy. Sam Wasson had a great night between the pipes with 14 saves while Guevarez held his own for the Falcons with 6 saves.

STATE COLLEGE 20 (2-3) CD EAST 1 (0-4)
- The score pretty much tells the story on this one. State College dominated and CD East is a team that is looking for answers and positives to build on. The Little Lions came out of the gate strong going up 11-0 at the end of the first and continued to pour it on from there. At 17-0 at the end of the first half the Lions seem to have pulled back on offense and let the game play out. Luc Michael and Brady Franks led State with 4 goals each on a day when 9 players found the back of the net.
The Panthers avoided the shut out with a goal in the third and will look to bounce back today at home (Landis Field) against the 1-2 Mechanicsburg Wildcats.
