MID-PENN PREVIEW - 3/24

A whole lot of action on Tuesday as every Mid-Penn team will play, most of them openers for both squads. Typically teams prefer to open out of conference but due to weather related issues on Friday and Saturday all teams had to post pone their opening games and will need to hit the ground running today.

Trinity at Central Dauphin 4:15pm
The Rams just missed the district post season but did manage to defeat the Shamrocks in their final game of the 2014 season. CD has defeated Trinity's in four of their last five meetings including the district playoffs.  Both teams lost a lot to graduation but certainly have pieces capable of stepping in and producing right away.

For CD look for Chris Martin and Derek Quaid to be involved in the offense right away. For the Rocks we expect Junior Jesse Altemeyer to continue to produce goals and assists along side his fellow classmates Vinny Oliverio, Mark Mandack, and Bryce Amos. Senior Mark Hergenroder returns to play after missing last season with a leg injury and should be a major factor all game.

MORE GAMES AFTER THE JUMP

Palmyra at Cumberland Valley 4:15pm
Two teams with big aspirations in 2015 clash in their openers at CV. The Cougars are aiming to improve on a 9-9 season that saw them lose several close games. Senior Trevor Frye will lead the offense while Junior standout Tyler Gallagher anchors the defense.

For the Eagles the 2015 season has brought high expectations. Thomas Arentz  and Nic Brown in goal will anchor the defense. Offensively they have multitude of options in Rod Jamieson, Stevie Peters, Jeff Hamlin, John Miller, and CJ Sherlock.

State College at Hershey 4:15pm
State College lost their opener to Parkland in a low scoring affair 3-1. Their second game won't get much easier as they face the defending MP Champions. The Little Lions have some excellent pieces in Senior attackman Brady Franks, LSM Christian Restivo, and Junior goal tender Nick Schwab, The question is will it be enough to slow down the Trojans?

Opening games can be tricky in terms of rhythm and execution. Look for Jake Wilson and Brook Briggs to get Hershey going offensively from the attack while Karl Van Blargen leads the midfield. 1st Team MP selection Matt Stewart will aim to keep Hershey in the plus column in possessions as one of the leagues best FOGO's. Defensively Jack Donahue and company will aim to help first year starter Quintin Taylor get set in the net.

Lower Dauphin at Carlisle 6:30pm
LD will look to continue to make strides towards the Keystone Division following a forward moving 7-9 season. Nick Mattis on defense and Justin Guevarez in the net will look to slow down the Herd's new look offense. Garrett Schug will be a big part of the scoring plan following his 22 goal season last spring.

For the Herd this will be our first look at new goal keeper Matt Fuller and an offense that must replace a lot of talent. Sophmore George Faller is quickly becoming one of the biggest names to watch in the MP following a 35 goal freshman season. Drew Amsley also figures to be heavily involved.

Chambersburg at Bishop McDevitt 7:00pm
Coach Flohr and the Trojans head to McDevitt for the opener against a young Crusader team. Chambersburg graduated some serious fire power in JT Hopple and Nick Lombardozi. Seniors Jake Pierson (35 goals, 10 assists) and Grant Swisher (17,13) will look to continue where they left off in 2014. For the Crusaders we expect to see Junior Nick Lokitis and Sophmore Griffin Hanes involved in the offensive attack all night.

CD East at Northern York 4:15pm
Northern must bounce back quickly following a difficult 13-11 loss to Spring Grove last night. East aims to be more competitive in 2015. Look for Derrick Myers, Andrew Sade, and Nick Roman to get the Polar Bears back on track in this one.

Danville at Mechanicsburg 4:30pm
Coach Brisbane and the Wildcats have the lone out conference game with Danville coming to town. The Ironmen finished 8-5 last season (33 in DIII rankings). The first step for the Wildcats to improving upon their 2-15 mark in 2014 will be to open with a win at home, something they did last spring. Look for Junior Reagan Prtichett to be heavily involved along with Juniors Sam Shipman and Jaryn Ruth.
