MID-PENN PREVIEW - NORTHERN YORK

2014 Team After Winning the Brisbane Cup
NORTHERN YORK POLAR BEARS
Commonwealth Division
Head Coach Jeff Miller
Overall Record: 10-7    Mid-Penn Record: 8-4

Northern York had a slow start to the 2014 season losing 7 of their first 9 games. They bounced back in the second half of the spring and won 8 straight games down the stretch. After a difficult start the Polar Bears were able to lay claim to being one of the better teams in the Mid-Penn having beaten CV, CD, Palmyra, LD, and Chambersburg. Coach Jeff Miller's squad show cased excellent resolve and who knows what they may have done had they made the district tournament. They finished at 19 in D-III seeding with to much ground to make up.

The 2015 squad will have a lot of parts to replace as Zach Martick (18 goals, 43 assists), Sam Haak (24,7), Grant Rutter (23,3), and Luke Lynes (7) all graduated. They will also need to find replacements on the defense side of the ball for Richard Settle and goalies Zach Shumberger (78 saves) and Gerald Slothower (48 saves).

Leading goal scorer Derek Myers (25,4) and Andrew Sade (18,2) look to take charge for the young Northern offense in their Junior seasons.

If Northern can avoid another slow start they could be a very interesting team this spring. A team that has between 9-11 wins per season the past 3 years shows the Polar Bears could be ready to make a jump in 2015.
