In Mid-April State College was 6-2 in Mid-Penn play with an outside shot at the Commonwealth Division heading into a key match-up with Trinity. The Little Lions would have needed a lot of breaks and ultimately fell to Trinity 5-10. This kicked off a difficult second half of the season which saw them go 1-7 down the home stretch. Key wins over CD, CV, Northern, and Palmyra show this is a team trending towards making a move for the division. Finishing 28th in District seeding a playoff birth is in their sites for 2015.
Key departures are Luc Michael (29 goals, 5 assists) and Sam Schwab (22,5).
Brady Franks (34, 9) enters his Senior season after leading the Lions in scoring last spring. Look for him to be a candidate for Mid-Penn player of the year in 2015. He will continue his career at Widener next fall. Senior and 2nd Team Mid-Penn LSM Christian Restivio will be a huge component of the Lions defense. Nick Schwab is in his Junior year in the cage and looks to build on a tremendous Sophomore campaign (168 saves). PJ Bachman (12,8) also figures to be featured in the mix.
As we progress towards the top of the Mid-Penn teams it is always exciting to look at the mid-tier clubs to see who is ready to make a run at their division and upset the apple cart. State College and Franks could be one of those teams.
