MID PENN PREVIEW - 4/3/14

 CARLISLE (4-0) at CUMBERLAND VALLEY (2-2) 7:00PM
- The Eagles are coming off a tough home loss against Hershey, 15-5, and will need to regroup quickly as they have Commonwealth foe Carlisle coming to the nest tonight. Coach Bogazyck's defense has played relatively well this season and gave the Trojans some difficult looks. The big question will be who gets the nod in goal. Brendan Pagni was pulled in the 1st quarter on Tuesday and Nick Brown had the better game of the two goalies against Hershey on Tuesday. If the Eagles can have a dominant defensive performance, Nathan Tran can dominate on face offs, and Logan Fazakerly can get into a rhythm on offense the upset possibility is very real.
Carlisle has been extremely well coached this year by Kidder. The only misstep for the Herd was the 2nd half against CD where they were held scoreless. 6 goals won't win a lot of games. Look for Max Breschi, George Faller, and Jon Mundell to right the ship tonight. Mark Bowser, Sid Ewell, and the rest of the defense can win games for the Herd as well.

LOWER DAUPHIN (0-3) at HERSHEY (5-0) 5:30pm
- Coach Vickroy and the Falcons are still searching for win number one after two one loss defeats, the most recent of which coming from cross town rival Palmyra. They will head to other side of eastern Harrisburg and play rival Hershey tonight. Unfortunately this match-up does not play favorably for LD.
Logan Calhoun, Jake Wilson, and George Briggs are leading a dominate offensive attack. What is scary is Coach Schein typically calls off the dogs after the first or second quarter. Kyle Kondracki and the defense has been impressive as of late as well. Everything is firing for Hershey with a great transition game to compliment their offensive and defensive efforts.
Garrett Schug and Kevin Beaver are the top producers for the Falcons with four goals each. They will need to increase that output to keep up with the Trojans. The Falcons appear to be trying out two separate keepers in Justin Guevarez and Jadon Hertzler, who ever gets the nod will have their work cut out for them.

STATE COLLEGE (2-3) at CENTRAL DAUPHIN (2-2) 4:15pm
- Central Dauphin has been a difficult team to figure out, beating Palmyra and Elizabethtown shows they are a quality team. Hershey handled them well at 15-4 but they showed they have a good defense by holding Carlisle to only 6 goals (0 in the 2nd half) in a 6-2 loss. State College is also a bit of an enigma at this point. Their two wins came against CD East and Mechanicsburg with losses to Chambersburg, Franklin Regional, and Parkland. This game should shed some light on each teams positioning in the Mid Penn.
The Little Lions have had success with Luc Michael and Brady Frank getting involved and look for that trend to continue today. The Rams on the other hand will look to showcase their defense and rely on Nate Beard, Carson Wolford, and Eli Hudson to find the net. Scott Kelly will be a huge factor for CD between the pipes in this one.

BISHOP MCDEVITT (0-3) at PALMYRA (3-2) 4:15pm
- Coach Walter lost a lot of fire power last season and was hoping to reload in 2014. Still searching for that first win they need players to step into the role of leading scorer. Nick Suknaic, Jackson Hanes, Cole Bevan, and Nick Lokitus all seem capable and poised to do so. They each have 3 goals a piece on the young season. One or two of them need to step up the scoring sooner than later. The Crusaders were a surprise success story last year and want to keep that momentum going forward.
Palmyra is a tough out for teams and looks to get back to back wins in this one. Tough losses to CV and CD may have cost the Cougars in terms of Mid Penn title hopes but there is still a lot for them to play for. With wins over LD, Conestoga Valley, and Garden Spot Coach Gatano is looking to get his squad to .500 in Mid Penn play. At the start of the season they appeared to be a little one dimensional in relying on senior attackman Joey Hess (15 goals, 10 assists) but new offensive weapons have come to light in Nick Mazzaco (6 goals, 2 assists) and Trevor Frye (5 goals, 4 assists). As their offensive system becomes more diversified Palmyra will see greater success.
