MID PENN REPORT - 4/4/14

CARLISLE 10  CUMBERLAND VALLEY 2
- The Herd continue there March to the Commonwealth title and an April 16th showdown with the Trinity Shamrocks. Carlisle may have had some concerns after being shutout in the second half of their game on Tuesday with CD but those went away as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead at the half. It took both teams a little bit of time to find the back of the net in the early going, but the first quarter ended with four goals in the final four minutes.
From there Carlilse was able to finish the Eagles off with 3 goals in the third quarter and 2 in the final frame. CV was unable to score in the second half and let an opportunity to compete, and possibly win, slip away due to little offensive production. This is the second straight home loss for Coach Bogazyck and CV. Playing Hershey and Carlisle in a 3 day stretch is not ideal.
Logan Fazakerly and Tommy Lehman each found the net and Nick Brown had 8 saves in goal for CV. George Faller led the Herd with 3 goals and Max Breschi followed with a pair of his own. Another solid outing for Mark Bowser, Sid Ewell, and the Carlisle defense.

HERSHEY 22 LOWER DAUPHIN 2
- Cross town rivalries can often times bring out the best in both teams. And at other times can lead to lopsided final scores. Hershey wasted not time and showed little mercy against Lower Dauphin last night. The game was 16-1 by the half when Coach Schein pulled back and coasted the Trojans to win number six. Hershey has outscored it's opponents 94-16 in six games this season.
10 players were involved for the Trojans in scoring. Calhoun (3), Briggs (4), and Wilson (4) led Hershey in goals. One has to wonder how much higher there numbers would be if they were allowed to push it the whole game... Kyle Kondracki (4 saves) and the defense was dominant again.  Weston Miller and Garrett Schug scored for LD.

STATE COLLEGE 8 CENTRAL DAUPHIN 5
- State College goes on the road and gets the surprise victory over the struggling rams offense. Sam Schwab led the Little Lions with 4 goals yesterday, he came into the game with 3 goals in 5 games. The contest was close but State College pulled away bit by bit. The Lions outscored CD 3-2 in the first and created separation in the third and fourth outscoring them by one goal in each of those frames.
Coach Driscoll's squad is now 1-3 in the Mid Penn with losses to State College, Hershey, and Carlisle. They have dropped three of their last four managing just 22 goals in that time frame. Nate Beard (2), Eli Hudson (2), and Colton Nye (1) all scored. The Rams next face Wilson and Penn Manor in out of conference games.
State College may be quietly sneaking up on the ranks of the Mid Penn. At 3-1, with a loss to Chambersburg, contention for the Commonwealth is not out of the question. Games with Carlisle and Trinity will become must wins.

PALMYRA 12 BISHOP MCDEVITT 4
- Palmyra is not going to go away quietly. With back to back Keystone Division wins coach Gatano's team is showing a lot of heart and determination to make a run at a district playoff birth. The Cougars jumped out early to 4 -0 lead in the first and never looked back from there. With a 7-1 halftime lead they were able maintain that margin and get the W. Nick Mazzocca again had a big game with 5 goals while Joey Hess followed with a 7 point performance (3 goals, 4 assists). Teams seem to be locking in on Hess and shutting him off. If Palmyra can continue to get Mazzacco going and find a few other scorers they will be able to open Hess back up for some of those monster days we saw earlier in the season.
Coach Walter and the Crusaders made some major strides in 2013 but look like they may be in for a down year this season. at 0-4 (0-2 in the Mid Penn) the opportunities to be competitive in their division and districts are starting to get farther away. They loss a lot of production last year and will need to find some way to get scorers involved this season. Cole Bevan found the net and Bobby Zweigart had his first goal of the season last night.
