MID PENN REPORT - 4/11/14

TRINITY 7 PALMYRA 6
- What a couple days for Coach Heisey and the Shamrocks. A two goal win over Northern on Wednesday followed by a one goal road win over Palmyra has Trinity still undefeated at 7-0 and all eyes looking towards their April 16th showdown with Carlisle. The Rocks seemed somewhat untouchable early in the season but have shown they can be competed with the past two nights.
Trinity got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first and looked to be in control but Palmyra battled back to 3-2 at the half and then 5-3 headed into the 4th. The Cougars outscored Trinity 3-2 in the final frame but finished a goal short. Great defensive effort by both squads highlighted by goalie Austin Bailey (Trinity, 7 saves) and  Sam Wasson (Palmyra, 13 saves).
Offensively Palmyra impressively had 7 different players find the back of the net and Joey Hess was not one of them, although he stayed involved with 2 assists. Trinity again showed they have many players who can step up and lead in scoring with Senior attackman Kyle Scott scoring 3 goals, Mitch Kleist again posting solid numbers with 2 goals, and midfielder John Miller also getting 2 goals.

CENTRAL DAUPHIN 7 CHAMBERSBURG 5
-  A lot of eyes were on this one as CD is was trying to break out of rough start and Chambersburg appeared to be a dark horse contender. This game was a battle through out as they ended the first half tied 4-4. The Rams again highlighted an improving defense by holding the Trojans to only one goal in the second half while scoring three of their own.
The scorers for CD were familiar faces Eli Hudson (2 goals), Nate Beard (3 assists), Colton Nye (2 goals), and Carson Wolford (2 goals). For Chambersburg's Nick Lombardozzi and Jake Pierson each had 2 goals but were not able to put up their normal huge stats. This could be a concern for Chambersburg moving forward in Mid Penn play.

LOWER DAUPHIN 8 STATE COLLEGE 2
- Upset of the night goes to the Falcons as they surprise State College at home. Prior to this game LD did not look like they would be able to keep pace with the Little Lions who had quality wins against CD and CV. The game was tight early as the score at the half was only 3-2 Falcons. A scoreless 3rd quarter made this look like a defensive battle till the finish but then LD caught fire scoring 5 unanswered goals in the 4th and pulling away for the victory.
Justin Guevarez had a stand out performance with 18 saves and Mike Mattis led the Falcons offensive attack with 4 goals in game that saw 5 Lower Dauphin players score.

HERSHEY 17 NORTHERN YORK 2
- This was a tough setup for the Polar Bears as they played their hearts out Wednesday night against Trinity on the road in a two goal loss. We can only speculate if they were or were not a bit deflated going on the road against Hershey. Unfortunately with rescheduling and a lot of games in a short amount of time all teams face these challenges.
Hershey was again dominant and looks to be locked in on their quest to regain the Mid Penn title. Outscoring opponents 129-19 on their way to an impressive 8-0 start. This game was never in doubt as the Trojans again jumped out early and had a 7-1  lead at the half. Hershey then closed the door with a 9 goal third quarter. George Briggs, Logan Calhoun, and Jake Wilson all were impressive with 4 goals a piece.

CUMBERLAND VALLEY 14 MECHANICSBURG 0
- The Eagles came out scoring and never looked back. On their way to a 12 goal first half CV was in charge all day against Mechanicsburg. Coach Bohazyck's players had little trouble getting to the net. Dodging from the top and finding cutters they managed to get 9 players involved in the scoring. Tommy Lehman led the way with 3 goals, followed by Brendan Rigney, Nick Zumbrum, and Jeff Hamlin who all had 2 each.
Mechanicsburg's defensive issues were only compounded by trouble in transition and issues with ball control on offense. A shut out is never a good thing for an offense and the Wildcats will need to regroup as they look to continue to build and improve through out the season.

CARLISLE 15 BISHOP MCDEVITT 1
- McDevitt remains winless on the road against Carlisle. The Crusaders fall to 0-6 and look a long ways away from the team that surprised the Mid Penn last season. The Herd continues to be impressive on their undefeated season as they move to 7-0 and will get ready quickly for a game with Manheim Twonship tonight.
Drew Amsley (4 goals) and Max Breschi (3 goals) led Carlisle on a day that saw 11 total players score a goal. Mark Bowser had 4 saves in yet another game where Carlisle held their opponent to less than 3 goals.
